Beaches in Lakshwadeep
The islands looking like emeralds in the vast stretch of blue sea, built on ancient volcanic formations are the Lakshadweep (meaning a hundred thousand islands), the tiniest Union Territory of India. Lakshadweep means ‘a hundred thousand islands’ in Malayalam, the local language. However there are only 36 islands having a total area of 32 sq. kilometers. It is the tiniest Union Territory of India with 12 atolls, 3 reefs and 5 submerged banks. Ten Islands are inhabited. They are Agatti, Amini, Andrott, Bitra, Chetlat, Kadmat, Kalpeni, Kavaratti, Kiltan and Minicoy. Only five of these islands are open to tourists. Bangram, the resort for international tourists, is uninhabited. The four islands that are open for domestic tourism are Kavaratti the administrative capital; Kalpeni with its rich coral and marine life; Kadmat with some of the finest beaches in Lakshadweep; and Minicoy which has one of the largest lagoons in the archipelago. Agatti has beautiful lagoons and the airport is located here. While holidaying on islands, beaches can bring out the best in your holiday, and there is no better place than the exotic beaches in Lakshadweep Islands.
Kavaratti beach

Kavaratti has one of the most beautiful Lakshadweep beaches, where you can relax and sunbathe. The Ajara and Jamnath mosques (of the 52 on the island) have the best wood carving and the former has a particularly good ceiling carved out of driftwood; a well within is believed to have medicinal water. Marine life exhibits can be seen at the new marine aquarium. Kayaks and sailing yatches are available on hire and one can also enjoy viewing the exotic marine life through glass bottom boats. The marine aquarium and the dolphin dive center are popular tourist attractions among Lakshadweep beaches in Kavaratti.

Kalpeni beach is one of the peculiar beaches of Lakshadweep and has an interesting history. The peculiar feature of Kalpeni atoll is the huge storm bank of coral debris along the eastern & south-eastern shoreline. It is believed that a huge boulder was thrown up during a storm in 1847. You can enjoy snorkeling, swimming, and paddling in the reef as well as kayaking, pedal boating and sailing at one of the most interesting beaches in Lakshadweep. Water sports crafts are available on hire.

The place is ideal for a real holiday that brings you away from the maddening crowd, hustle and bustle of city life. Kadmat Island is known for pristine beaches, lagoons and scuba diving facilities. To the south of the island are stretches of the extensive sandy beach, perfect for sunbathers. The sparkling clear water off Kadmat beach makes it one of the best scuba diving locations among all the Lakshadweep Beaches
Bangaram Beach
An uninhabited island, Bangaram is the only one open to foreign tourists. The teardrop-shaped island has superb beaches and beautiful lagoons. The wealth of coral formation (including black coral) attracts a variety of tropical fish-angel, clown, butterfly, surgeon, sweetlip, snappers and groupers.
