The gateway to god
Haridwar is the gateway to the four shrines or char dham in the Uttarakhand region. Haridwar India is the first major town on plains after Ganga leaves the mountains. Haridwar is one of the holy places that every Hindu does visit once in a lifetime or after death. According to Hindu tradition, the ashes of the dead are immersed in the holy waters of Ganga at Haridwar to pray for peace for the dead soul. The water here is clean and people take bath on the numerous bathing Ghats made on both the banks of the river. Haridwar is also said to be blessed with the trinity of Lord Shiva- the destroyer, Lord- Vishnu- the preserver and Lord Brahma –the creator. It is said that taking bath at Haridwar purifies one of his sins leading to purification of the soul which eventually leads to ultimate freedom. Haridwar is a frequently flocked Hindu pilgrimage place. Over the years Haridwar has served as a major education centre for arts science and culture. The town still maintains the Gurukul tradition of teaching. Today Haridwar has high infrastructural growth and it makes a perfect blend of spirituality and comfort. There are numerous hotels in Haridwar.

Location
Haridwar India is located at height of 300mts above sea level on the foothills of Shivaliks and the banks of river Ganga. Since, it’s on plains one cannot expect a pleasant climate in the region the way it is in mountains. The town is located 200km away from Delhi and the summer temperature here lingers around 40 degree which is same as Delhi. In winters, however the temperature dips down to 6 degree so none of the seasons are very pleasant. While booking Haridwar trip packages make sure that its not the rush season with any fairs or festivals. And also take care of the season. Haridwar is always crowded with people and you want to take a peaceful dip in the holy river then you need to choose the right time. You can save yourself from the extreme climatic conditions by stationing yourself at one of the many comfortable and affordable Haridwar hotels rather than spending the night at the Ghats.

Pilgrimage attractions
Har Ki Pauri is a Ghat located on the Banks of Ganga in Haridwar. It is said that the Ghat was built in the memory of Bhartinihari, Brother of King Vikramaditya. The Ghat is also known as Brahmakund. Even though there are a number of comfortable hotels in Haridwar, a number of people prefer to put down sheets at Har Ki Pauri and sleep at night.  The main attraction at the Ghat is the ‘Maha Aarti’ which is performed in the twilight and is a sight not to be missed by any visitor. Chandi Devi and Mansa Devi are two other interesting temple attractions in the town. They are located at hill tops that are at a higher altitude than Haridwar. These temples are connected to the town through a ropeway and the trolley ride is very exciting and gives excellent views of Haridwar.
